Terms of use

These terms cover the website at unprotectedseth.com, the live map at where.unprotectedseth.com, and the Unprotected Seth app for iPhone. All three are made and run by one person, Seth Reiber, in New York. By using any of them you agree to what follows. If you do not agree, the remedy is simple: close the page or delete the app.

The Bureau is fiction

The Bureau of Anomalous Fauna, HOWL (the Hazardous Organism Warrant Listing), its contracts, order numbers, assessors, alert tiers, and every creature in the stories are fiction, told along a real drive. The Bureau is not a government agency and does not depict one. Its seal is an invented emblem and signifies nothing official. Nothing here is a warrant, a warning, an advisory or an instruction from any authority.

Real places appear as settings, and real businesses are sometimes named because Seth ate or slept there. Nothing in a story is a statement of fact about any place, business or person. Any resemblance between a character and a real person is coincidental, except for people who appear by name with their knowledge.

Do not do what the stories describe

The hunts, fights, potions and roadside stunts in the stories did not happen and should not be attempted. Nothing on the site or in the app is advice about wildlife, travel, driving, camping, national parks or safety. Follow park rules, local law and your own judgement. The live stream shows a car on public roads; it is entertainment, not a guide to driving.

Your use

You may read, watch and listen for personal, non-commercial purposes, share links freely, and quote short passages with credit. You may not:

• copy, repost or redistribute the stories, films, photographs or the record of the drive as a whole, or sell anything made from them, without written permission;
• use robots, scrapers or scripts against the website, the live map or its data feeds, other than ordinary search engine crawling where it is allowed;
• work around rate limits, send automated likes, waves, songs or push registrations, or try to disrupt the server;
• present the site, the Bureau or its seal as real, official or endorsed by anyone;
• use the live map to follow, approach or interfere with the car or the person in it.

Access may be rate limited or blocked at any time, without notice, to keep the site running for everyone else.

The jukebox, likes and waves

When the jukebox is open, anyone can add a song to the playlist Seth listens to on the drive. A song pick is anonymous and public: the title and artist appear in the app and on the map, and the song is added to a public Spotify playlist. There is no right to have a pick kept. Picks may be removed, skipped or filtered for any reason, including songs that are abusive, hateful or clearly chosen to harass. Searches run through Spotify under Seth's own account; you never sign in to anything.

Likes and waves are anonymous counts and nothing more. A like can be undone from the same phone; a wave cannot be taken back, because nothing identifies whose it was. See the privacy page for exactly what is kept.

Who owns what

The stories, films, photographs, notes, the design of the site and the app, the Bureau's seal, and the record of the drive are copyright Seth Reiber, 2026, all rights reserved, except where credited otherwise below. "Unprotected Seth", "Salt & Solitude", "Frost & Frontier" and "Bureau of Anomalous Fauna" are names used by Seth Reiber for this work.

Music belongs to its artists and rights holders. It is never hosted here; a song plays through Spotify, Apple Music or YouTube under their terms and licences, and the playlist shows only titles and artists. Map tiles and place data belong to their providers, credited on the map and below. Brand names such as Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music, Polestar and others belong to their owners and are used only to name them.

Third-party services

Parts of the site and the app hand you to other services, each under its own terms and privacy policy:

• Films, the trailer and the live stream play in YouTube's embedded player. By watching them you agree to the YouTube Terms of Service; Google's handling of data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.
• Songs and the playlist open in Spotify or Apple Music, and the jukebox searches Spotify's catalogue.
• The map draws its terrain from the U.S. Geological Survey's National Map, which is public domain, and names places with OpenStreetMap's Nominatim.
• Anything bought from the store is a purchase from Stripe or the print-on-demand shop that handles it, under their terms, returns and privacy policies. No money passes through the site or the app.
• A contribution to the story is a voluntary gift sent through Venmo, under Venmo's user agreement. It buys nothing, unlocks nothing and is not refundable by the site; it is offered on the website only, never inside the app.

Copyright complaints

If you believe something here infringes your copyright, write to seth@unprotectedseth.com with the work you own, where the material appears (a link), your contact details, a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorised, a statement under penalty of perjury that you are the owner or act for the owner, and your signature. Material that infringes will be removed. If something of yours was removed and you believe that was a mistake, write the same way and say so.

HOWL alerts

HOWL alerts are notifications about the car and the stream, dressed in the story. They are not emergency alerts and never carry safety information. Delivery depends on Apple's push service and your phone's settings and is not guaranteed. You can turn them off in the app at any time.

No warranties, limited liability

The site, the live map and the app are provided as they are, with no warranty of any kind, express or implied, including that they will be accurate, available, uninterrupted or free of errors. The live map shows a position from a phone and a car and may be wrong, late or missing. To the fullest extent the law allows, Seth Reiber is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of any of this, and in any case total liability is limited to the amount you paid to use it, which is nothing. Some places do not allow these limits, so some may not apply to you.

Changes and law

These terms may change; the date at the top says when. Continued use after a change means you accept it. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict of law rules, and any dispute belongs in the state or federal courts located in New York. If you have a problem, write first; most things can be fixed with an email.

If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stands. These terms and the privacy page are the whole agreement between you and Seth Reiber about the site, the map and the app.

• Typefaces Cinzel, Cormorant Garamond, Newsreader, JetBrains Mono and Schibsted Grotesk, each under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, served from this site.
• Spotify, the Spotify logo, YouTube and Apple Music are trademarks of their owners. Content from Spotify is shown with Spotify's mark as its guidelines require.
• The Polestar battery and range readings come from the car's own account, with the owner's consent, which is the only account involved.
